New Years

I really am a fool to think I was going to Blog everyday ...but this one is relating to a few weeks ago when me and the fam was able to stay at home before having to leave again to stay with Michelle's Mom and Step Dad's house for a week or longer while HUD removed the lead paint out of our house. But more on the de-leading later. Anyway, going back home from Chicago as I said went smooth on Saturday. Sunday, not much happened..maybe Michelle went out I forget. Monday I went in to work to get myself ready for the new year....No one was around but since My boss came in, I had to stay the whole darn it day...This was New Years eve thou and I was excited to have lived to see another year. Didn't know what I was going to be doing except for hanging with the family. but I was in the mood for company which seems to be always...I'm a social bug, I love people, I feel stronger around others..I'm not sure why...I work best alone and I love to watch movies alone..I like to read alone..but most people like to read alone....I like to eat alone...but I like to hang every chance I can get with others and I like to sleep with somebody most of the time..not always right next to a person..just someone else around...Because of this puzzling problem of mine I called Chris Zag to see what he was up too. Little did I know he called my house and asked the same. Chris and Allison and their little one Felicity live not far form us. Felicity is Chris' second kid and she's only like 8 months old. Chris is a guy I have worked with in the band "Lone Tree" and he was a major character in the movie "Naugacide." Also he's a good friend. Funny thou, His dad is best friends with my dad. They knew each other in High School right here in Collinsville. Also funny is that his birthday is December 10th and mine is December 8th...He was born in 1968 and I 1969. So we are only a year in age apart. Growing up I got Christmas cards and birthday cards form him, but mostly because his parents made him I think. I don't remember meeting him as a small boy but I was told we did. But we didn't become friends for real until around 2003 there abouts. I knew who he was before then and hung with him a few times. He was a newspaper delivery guy who instead of driving house to house throwing the damn thing out the window, he would carry all the papers in satchel and hand deliver the paper. He walked everywhere. Sometimes I would invite him in during these deliveries. Even back in 2000 I remember seeing him from in my house in Edwardsville walking with his 1st kid on his shoulders down the sidewalk. Turned out he only lived 1/2 a block away on the same street as I did all by chance. I also remember a time when I bumped into him at the shop and save in Edwardsville buying food with his daughter...we all happened to be standing in the same check out line...we didn't say anything then, but I bet we were thinking about it. So it's strange how we became friends after all this...I feel like we are lost cousins....like estranged family members. Anyway, we also have not seen each other since we both turned 38 and 39 respectively so it would be good to get together for that as well. We bundled up the kids and ran over to their place with beer and champagne. I also made a mix cd-r of old tunes from my record collection...I had Herbie Hancock, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Animal Collective, Mothers of Invention, Byrds, Cave, John Renbourn,

Ariel Pink, and other bands I thought they would dig. Also I made a collection of songs I'm working on that I want him and Allison to play over at some point. When we got there Felicity was already in bed so we didn't get to see her. Our kids were snotty anyway so I guess it was for the best she was not around. We hung out mostly drinking and playing the CDs I brought over. Chris made some snacks and talked about how his hair is falling out. I don't think it is or as much as he thinks it is. Not muched happened...Chris did have a great facal expression he would make Quenby go wildly with explosive bursts of laughter and made her run crazy around and around chris like a nascar phantom.....it was as if he made his eyes pop from his head and his lips became as small is a dime....while grunting...I told him I wish I could make her do that and he just zoned and told me it was becasue I didn't have an ugly face...that and Michelle did say she liked my new songs, which meant alot to me since I don't recall her saying anything nice about my music for some time. but remember...free...is the way to be...i by chance have currently nautical almanac's "cover the earth" churning my turntable's jade milk on to the mute recluse that is my vinyl floor...free...free.fre....anyway, we watched Quenby chase after their cats and slam doors all over the place. Her energy is amazing I'd say...never stops ever. .. . ever . .. .ever. .. .anyway Faren was doing pretty good until Allison wanted to give her hair a brushing...got her all upset for some reason...the real case here is that the kids were wanting to go to sleep and was being kept up by us so they could bring in the new year. Faren normally loves new years eve cuz she always got real excited with people around being all full of good goo....happy as can be...but this time it didn't bode well. maybe it is because she's older now and see thru stuff..or maybe it's all physical...maybe both...but she was not too happy...but not pissed...Quenby meanwhile was having a meltdown by the time Chris put on Abba's Greatest Hits Vol 2. I remember reading once that at one time Abba was Sweden's biggest export after Volvo or maybe Abba was indeed the biggest...I mean they were huge right? Let's take this album, Abba's Greatest hit VOLUME 2!!.......now I know when a band ever gets to the level of having a 2nd greatest hits album they should just find something better to do..you know better than to give the people the left over crap that didn't cut your actual greatest hits album..like it was marginal stuff only die hard fans would dig...but if they dig these they must have all the albums already right? I think greatest hits albums are for people who may have heard of the band or maybe some friends might dig it but you don't know if you like what yr friends dig or whatever..but you might respect the rave enough to try it but don't want to spend the money on a random non-great album by the artist (which in some cases as a piece of work in which songs can't just be removed and placed randomly on a scrapbook..but that's besides the point now) . This album follows ups "ABBA GOLD" (i think that's the name)...so I'm thinking there must be some goofy song chris put on to fuck with us asking to hear abba. But it turns out that vol2 has some of the most famous abba songs ever..not some leftover scuzz..shit!!! they must be huge to pull off a real 2nd Greatest Hits Album..Vol2 has "Dancing Queen" and "Take A Chance On Me"..those were the only abba songs I knew really and they both happen to be on Vol2. either Abba is a killer hot bandathon or I have slodge bottom tastes...i donnno....but we all danced to Abba for a few nice moments as 2008 slithered in and with it's cycloptic fog casting wonder and excitement as we forgetting who's cup or goblet we were drinking our champagne from. Then we about quarter after midnight we gathered our offsprings and headed out to home to put the kids to bed. Which went pretty well considering. We did however leave a hardly drunk bottle of champagne at chris and allison's and they won't drink it..it will be drain-o cum of the new year.
